Cheng Man Ch'ing (1902 - 1975) is known as the famous "Five Skill Elder", because he was a poet, a writer, an artist, a Chinese
medicine practioner and a Tai Chi master.
At age 27, he learned tai chi chuan from grand master Yang Chengfu. While
working as the officer-in-charge in the Hunan government's the martial arts
division, he promoted national movement in martial arts for the province.
He held tai chi classes for the millitary academy. Constrained
by the time that he could spend with the class, he simplified the traditional
