(1) Begin Tai Chi (起勢) This movement demonstrates the formation of yin and yang in Tai Chi. Proper posture is essential in maintaining stillness prior to any movement. (1a) Preparation (預備式) - Stand straight feet together with heels touching each other, toes point out at a 45 ° angle; - Straighten neck to keep head erect, eyes look forward and chin slightly down. - Keep lips together, with tongue touching the upper roof of the palate. - Sink shoulders, drop elbows, and let loose of the armpits to hang arms downward. - Keep the chest empty and relax the upper body. - Breath naturally and focus internal energy in the Dan-tian area ( 1 inch below the navel). - Bend knees and hip joints slightly to lower the upper body. - Shift weight to the right, lift left heel, stretch left foot out to shoulder width. - Shift weight to the left, turn right foot (with heel on the ground) so that both feet are parallel facing the front.
