(13) Diagonal Single Whip (±×³æÃ@)

Movements in this step is same as the Single Whip. Only the direction is from a corner to the opposite corner, i.e., from North-west to South-east.

1. Lower arms from shoulder height to chest level with arms slightly extended. Bend left knee and fully shift weight to sit on the left leg.

2. Turn waist/hip to left, the right foot turns inward to face the front wall. Arms turn with the waist toward the front wall first then continue a little further to the left.

3. Shift weight to right leg while turning waist/hip to the right. The arms follow the turning movement, right hand bend wrist to form a hook (fingers tips together) near the right armpit. The left hand also follows the motion circling out and down then coming to rest near the right hip with palm up facing the hook. All weight is in right leg now.

4. Turn waist/hip to the left, get left heel off the ground, pivot on the ball of the left foot and turn heel inward while sending the hook out to the right diagonally. Left foot take a big step to the left to shoulder width as if stepping back toward back wall with the heel. Do not place weight on left foot yet.

5. Briefly squat and slowly transfer weight to the left leg, left hand maintaining distance from the chest, rises the centerline with the palm facing the heart.

6. Right toes turn to the diagonal while the left forearm gradually turns over, the hand directly in front of the left shoulder. Put weight onto the left leg forming a left bow stance. Wrist is not bent and fingers are pointed slightly upward and forward. Right wrist extends toward front wall with elbow relaxed and hook pointing down.
